Top 5 reasons Why a Job is Just Like a Relationship

Having your interview is like meeting someone for the first time. You wear something nice, practice your expression, plan what to say and how to answer the questions. You would be following up the person like following up your date if he or she is still interested in you. Sometimes, you would have to go through another date to find the right candidate. Just like the interview, you have to go through a lot of scheduled interviews to find the right company for you.

A job is like a relationship in some ways. Here are some reasons or ideas on why a job is like a relationship:

1. A relationship is a full time job.
When you are in a relationship, it is right for your partner to know where you are. There’s always that attitude of “he does not need to know where I am all the time.” Sure they don’t, in the beginning that is. But you have made your commitment when you enter into the relationship. Wouldn’t it be respectful for your fellow employee or employer to know where you have been missing or why you are late for the meeting and so on? Isn’t it the same? Make sure you contact your fellow employees or employers to build up the trust.

2. A relationship takes a lot of work.
Nothing comes for free when it comes to both relationship and work. Just like working, if you want good benefits and returns, you must have good work quality. If there is no effort at all, things will never change. Eventually in a relationship either the male or female would demand on how you work the relationship. The company would not release your paycheck or it comes in late if you do not prove your worth. In a relationship, you shouldn’t be selfish because you will end up lonely and unhappy. In the terms of working, it is not all about you. It is also about helping others if they are in trouble.

3. Relationships are destroyed because of lack of communication.
Partners tend to keep their troubles to themselves until the very last minute. Situations that bother you should be taken action immediately. Like when you are having problem with your partner, you have to adjust to their attitude and talk things through. If anything happens, it is good to confront right away. You don’t want your boss saying “Why haven’t you told me sooner?” Hesitating is out on this one. It will make you look weak and timid.

4. Benefits should be quite obvious and goes without saying.
If you think that the benefits are not fulfilling, then you need to find a new partner. Just like when your job is not fulfilling to you, you should look for another. In a long term relationship, you would need somebody to rely on. The situation is a give and take thing but when you are giving it your all and nothing happens, that’s when you have to go.

5. Pink Slip?
If you keep giving out reasons of being late or absent and not putting any effort in your work then you get laid off from work. Just like in a relationship, you need to make an effort in being early on your date and try not to decline any offer your partner would make. It is going to turn him off if you keep avoiding your work. Sooner or later if you do not keep up your attitude or even plan to change it, you will get fired.

In anything that you do, put your heart in it and love your job as if you are in a relationship. If we have missed anything or you have something to share or suggest, you can comment below.
